After a week-long investigation, special agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) arrested 35-year-old Mary Elizabeth Newman of 12 Old Highway 25, Belmont, Mississippi. She has been charged in connection with a murder-for-hire scheme. Newman hired a hit man as part of a plot to have her husband killed.
“Our agents from the New Albany District developed information about the scheme and arrested Newman about 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17th in Tupelo,” MBI Director Lt. Colonel Larry Waggoner said.
Newman has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and is being held in the Lee County Detention center on $1,000,000 bond.
