> JACKSON, MISS. –With severe weather in the forecast for most of the state Tuesday afternoon through midnight, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to warn motorists of the dangers of traveling in severe weather.

> The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts possible severe weather starting Tuesday afternoon through midnight through most of the state. Significant severe weather (including strong tornadoes) is possible in southwest parts of the state while severe weather threatens other southern and central areas of Mississippi.

> Motorists are encouraged to use caution while traveling in severe weather and to make www.MDOTtraffic.com the starting point for current travel information and road condition alerts. Motorists can also get this information by downloading the MDOT Traffic mobile app in the App Store or Google Play, dialing 511 in Mississippi or by following MDOT on Twitter at www.twitter.com/MississippiDOT.

> · Allow more space between vehicles.

> · Brake early to allow plenty of time to stop.

> · Avoid driving into standing or running water—remember to turn around, don’t drown.
